About Marc Ferries Obituary

Marc Alan Ferries

October 28, 1956 - May 5, 2024

SALEM - Marc Alan Ferries died on May 5, 2024, he was 67 years old. He died at home, which is what he wanted. He died where he belonged, in a familiar setting.

Marc was born on October 28, 1956, in Corvallis, Oregon, the third child, the second son of Jeremy Vilas Ferries and Phyllis Anne Ferries. As a true Corvallis resident and an all-American kid, Marc played baseball, football, and basketball, and was a solid swimmer at the freestyle. In 1975 he graduated from Corvallis High and received his undergraduate degree in Business from Oregon State University in 1980.

In 1983, Marc began his lifelong career as a Financial Advisor at Paulson Investment Company and finished at D.A. Davidson. With only a desk, telephone, and phonebook, he built an empire. A true man of his word, he served his clients with paramount fiduciary integrity, looking out for their welfare, financial and otherwise, going above and beyond to care for his clients. He wrote sympathy cards to clients going through difficult times; he was always an understanding and listening ear for them, whether in-person or on the phone, and would make time in his day to attend funeral services of his clients. He was the best in the business: a model of hard work and integrity, a person everyone was proud to know and work with.

Outside of work, Marc loved all things related to the British Navy, World War II, mystery novels, and all things "Americana." He was perfectly enamored and content reading a book on these subjects and would regale his children about it for hours over evening dinners or afternoon coffees. Moreover, Marc was a lover of movies and TV shows, especially from the 1950s to the 1970s; he particularly loved the aesthetics, values, and humor in them, finding immense joy and humor in watching the same scenes, the same jokes, over and over again; they never lost their humor. He always laughed with the same intensity. Truly, he was a good-humored man.

Though he did not play an instrument, Marc loved music, and it moved his soul. Oldies were his favorite. From Doo-Wop to Frank Sinatra, from The Beach Boys to Sonic Youth, he had an eclectic taste in music and a fond love for lush vocal arrangements and harmonies. He could always be found in his car listening to his music and at home singing and snapping to a song, always happy to sing along with Dean Martin, whom he liked to style himself after.

Marc was baptized into and raised in Good Samaritan Episcopal Church (Corvallis, OR) and later served on the Vestry at Prince of Peace Episcopal Church in West Salem. He left the Episcopal Church in the mid-1990s. However in his later years, he began attending church again and joined Calvary Baptist Church (Salem, OR), serving on the Council and Foundation. Additionally, Marc, for several years, was highly active in the Salem Fraternal Order of the Eagles, presiding over the lodge as President. As such, Marc was known to be generous, giving out of the abundance God gave him. He never denied a request from a friend or family member in need. He was always there, giving support in every way. In this manner, and many others, he modeled the life and love of Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior.

He married twice, once to Carolyn (Divorced) and once to Marci (Divorced). From these two marriages, Marc received his three greatest treasures, his pride and joy: Emily Nunez, Lauren Manning, and Ryan Ferries. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Mike and Marie Ferries (Spokane, WA), and their children: Maureen and her husband Cameron Kadleck (Bend, OR) and their daughter Madeline, Carson Ferries (Spokane, WA), and Christine Ferries (Spokane, WA); his eldest daughter Emily and her husband Mike Nunez (Dallas, OR), and their children: Ava, Eliana, and Josie; his second daughter Lauren and her husband Gabriel Manning (Salem, OR), and their children: Audrey, James, Travis, and Brynn; and his son, Ryan Ferries (Bellingham, WA).

Those who knew Marc best will always remember him as fun-loving, good-humored, goofy, amicable, kind, generous, forgiving, hard-working, honest, sincere, sentimental, knowledgeable, competent, conservative, as an honorable son, an excellent businessman, and as a proud and loving father.

The memorial service for Marc Alan Ferries will be held on Saturday May 25th, 2024 at Evergreen Church (1110 17th St NE Salem, OR 97301) at 2 pm.

I am so sorry to learn of Marc’s death. I was in the class ahead of him but still knew him from church and CHS, and his dad was our vet. I remember him as a kind person and it sounds like he lived a full and happy life. I am really sorry he died so young
