| About Me | I was born on January 31, 1942 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Other than my Middle name, I carry the same name as my birth father. My name is Roger Vinton Woolf, where his name was Roger Clay Woolf. When I was three years old, my parents decided they wanted to go to a dance located in Coopersville, Michigan. Coopersville was and is my home town. It is located approximately 12 miles East of Grand Rapids, Michigan. When they departed home for their dance, they left me with my Grandparents on my mothers side of the family. After their arrival at the dance, my father would dance with the other women; never dancing with my mother. This kept on for over an hour when another gentleman asked my mother for a dance. She accepted, dancing with him for her first dance. This made my father very jealous causing him to lose his temper. He lost his temper to the degree that he beat her on the dance floor causing multiple harm and loss of blood. He then drug her out to the car, throwing her into the front passenger seat, and proceeded to drive to my Grandparents home to get me. They argued quite a bit on the way, causing him to lose control of his temper even more. This caused him to take aggressive action in turning her side of the car, crossways of the road, in front of an oncoming car. This was his threat to kill her. The end results of this caused undue skull damage and head surgery for my mother. This obviously resulted in a divorce. About a year later, my mother remarried a man that had two children in his custody from a prior marriage. This too, had negative results which I will address later. During my young years, my Stepfather really was not much of a Stepfather to me. In fact, he mistreated me most of the time. I stayed with my mother and him during the school part of the year from age six to about age ten. During the summer months, because on how he treated me, my mother would send me to live with my Grandparents every year. At age ten, I had made up my mind not to return to live with my mother and Stepfather. She agreed with me, allowing me to remain with my Grandparents. A couple of times during this period, I would return home in and effort to not being a stranger and to try to get along with my Stepfather. That did not work out too well. At age sixteen, I had quit school to make and effort of working due to a very poor economy. I did some work in Orchards and in the forest, cutting trees. The work was not plentiful so I stopped looking for employment and spoke with my mother about cosigning for me at age seventeen to join the US Army. She agreed to this, allowing me to join the US Army on February 19, 1959. I remained in the US Army for Twenty Years, spending fifteen of that twenty years in duty on Foreign soil or Foreign Countries. This included two years in Alaska just as it came into statehood; five years in France, and nine years in Southeast Asia. (Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia). I have visited or have been stationed in 21 countries all total. I have also visited 43 of the 50 States. Throughout my lifespan, I have owned and ridden a fair number of Motorcycles. The largest I have had was a 2000 cc, Kawasaki. By count, I have owned approximately 20 Motorcycles over the years. I have ridden them in Europe, the United States, and in Southeast Asia. Recently, on June 9, 2011, I was in my first accident when on a blind left curve on a two lane highway, I ran into a large volume of gravel that took me down. I was dead when they found me. It took them a little more then 9 hours to bring me back to living as I am today. I suffered multiple wounds in that accident. The worst was the damage to my head that required three surgeries to correct. I had to attend Rehab classes afterward in order to retain my Drivers License and to reload ammunition and shoot my guns. I was quite successful at this and was able to come back strong considering I was approaching 70 years of age. Since I have come back, I have taken to spending my winters in Lake Havasu City,...(read more) |
