About Me | I attended TTU, starting off in Engineering and winding up with dual degrees in History and Political Science. While at Tech, I served on Student Government and spent most of my time with activities as a member of College Republicans/Young Republicans and as a Brother in the Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity. I also used the time as an undergrad to start a career in public service, focusing mainly on government financial management. After graduation, I worked in the nonprofit sector for a year, then attended The University of Georgia to earn a Masters in Public Administration (MPA). Prior to starting UGA, I met Mandy Lewin. We were engaged in 2002 and married in 2004. I graduated UGA in 2003, and by that December, Mandy and I moved to Northern Virginia. From 2003 to 2006, I worked with the Cities of Manassas Park, VA, and Manassas, VA, in the capacity of budget and financial analysis. In December 2006, Mandy and I moved to Rocky Mount, NC, where I became Budget & Evaluation Manager for the City of Rocky Mount. Our last 16 months have been very, very busy. Last June, we closed on the purchase of our first home. That same week, we learned that Mandy was pregnant with our first child. Rebekah Leora Lewin Hunter was born on February 1, 2008. She has been a phenomenal gift for both of us, as well as our immediate and extended families. We feel grateful, honored, and humbled by the contribution God made in our lives with her arrival, and we appreciate every day and moment we have with her and helping her figure out the maze of life. Currently, along with my professional and family duties, I serve on the Board of the Young Professionals Network of Rocky Mount. I am also involved with the North Carolina Local Government Budgeting Association and am starting to contribute articles to various public administration news sources. I am also working on my first post-collegiate research project, which I will present at an academic conference in Chicago in October. In some ways, I am still the same uncomfortable Geek I was as a teenager. That never really left me. However, if it is possible to find your niche in life that works pretty well, I think I am pretty close to it now. There is always room for improvement, and I know there is much more to learn in all aspects of the world and life, but I am grateful for what I have...(read more) |
