Graduation Year Class of 1962
Date of Passing Feb 20, 2022
About Robert “Rabbi” B. Ryan, age 77, passed away on Feb 20, 2022 at Care One at Redstone surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Ludlow on Apr 5, 1944 to the late John P. and June H. (Stead) Ryan. He was a graduate of Commerce High School. Rabbi is a US Army Veteran. He worked as a linesman for the telephone company until his retirement from Verizon. After his retirement he worked Part Time for Big Sky Telecommunications. Predeceased by his brother Thomas, Robert leaves his wife of 51 years Darlene “Beetle” (Bailey) Ryan; his son, Eryn Ryan and his wife Emily of West Springfield; his daughter, Katie Ryan and her fiance Dan McLaughlin of Springfield; his sister, Judith Marcus of Medford; five grandchildren, Nikolai Potapov, Kayla and Cullen Ryan and Thomas and Norah McLaughlin; several nieces and nephews, and a million friends. Rabbi was a simple man who will be remembered for his loyalty and bright smile. He enjoyed puttering around his houses, March Madness, winters in Florida with close friends, but most of all, the time spent with his family. One of his proudest moments was being inducted into the Springfield Public School Sports Hall of Fame, reminding him of his basketball days from years ago. He served as park commissioner and was a member of the Boys Club and Alumni where he spent many of his younger years, as well as the Emily Bill Athletic Association. He also coached basketball. His home on Cape Cod was his passion. Every time he would get a chance he would drive to Wellfleet. He took so much pride, love, and joy at his Cape home with his family, especially sun sets with Beetle. If he never came back over that bridge again he would've been a happy man. Rabbi was a man of simplicity. Smaller was fine. Few words were better but the huge heart he carried was unconditional and priceless. The family would like to thank the staff at the facilities Rabbi was treated in for their kindness and compassion. They would also like to thank friends for the support they continue to receive during these difficult times. Visiting Hours will be held on Sun, Feb 27, 2022 from 1 to 4 pm at Sampson Chapel of the Acres 21 Tinkham Rd. Springfield. A memorial service will be held on Mon, Feb 28, 2022 at 11:30 am at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. Burial will follow with military honors at the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
