Glenn Allison

Served 27 yrs. U.S. Army. My first 13 yrs., I served as an enlisted soldier (paratrooper-173rd Airborne Brigade on Okinawa and one tour in Vietnam in 1965-66. While in Vietnam, I also had the honor of working with another Clinton alum, Eugene Hall, a carear Special Forces NCO. I served with the 82nd Airborne, on two occasions, at Fort Bragg NC. After my first tour in Vietnam, I was offered a position as a commissioned officer which I accepted. I returned to Vietnam for a second tour in 1968. I performed as an Armor Officer with the 1/1 Cavalry. The military afforded me the opportunity to complete my college degree at Texas State University. I retired from the military in 1980.

Served 27 years. Thirteen years in Airborne Infantry as an enlisted soldier. I served my first tour in Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. We were the first Army unit deployed to Vietnam in 1965. After my first tour, in Vietnam, I was commisioned as an Officer, thanks to General Ellis W. Williams, my commander in Vietnam. He was the finest soldier I have ever known . Like me, he came up through the ranks. I returned to Vietnam in 1968. I served as a Cavalry Troop Commander. I retired in 1980 as an Armor Officer with the rank of Major.

Served in Vietnam from 2/1968 to 3/1969 as bulkfuelman (1391)receiving, re-circulating, dispensing 115/145 Aviation fuel for helicopters and JP-4 jet fuel for fixed wing aircraft; received meritorious field promotion to Lance Corporal (E-3) and was placed in charge of testing incoming fuel samples for water and/or sediment; rotated to 25 Area, Supply Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA, April 1969. Honorably discharged and released from active duty after having attained rank of Corporal (E-4); also served as legal clerk & court reporter for Supply Bn. from July 1969 to March 1970. Actually served three years and six months active duty!

I had a choice of either joining the military or get drafted so I joined and was able to get the training I wanted. I went to Basic Training at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Monmouth, NJ. After AIT I was assigned to Defence Communications Operations Unit in Washington DC. I was there about 2 1/2 Years then I went to Defence Communications Support Unit, Thurmont MD for another 2 1/2 years then to Korea for 1 year. While I was in Korea I was assigned to the American Forces Korean Television/Radio Network.
