On Wednesday, February 15th,2023 June Mary Wolff (née Runger) passed away after a three year battle with colon cancer at the age of 76. A resident of Clifton, NJ, June recently relocated to Plano, TX in July 2022 to be closer to her family.
A graduate of Clifton High School class of 1964, she was proud to be first chair clarinetist in the marching band invited to attend and win an international competition in Europe. She was also a competitive swimmer and member of Future Teachers of America. She graduated from American University in DC with a Bachelor's in 1968 and completed her Master's at Seton Hall in 1972.
During her freshman year at American, June was a passenger in a convertible when she was ejected from the vehicle and suffered a broken back in the crash. With a fused spine that took 2" off her height, she was told she would never walk again or have children. June defied the odds and achieved both.
June's first job was as a first-grade teacher in Montclair. She eventually decided to take on the corporate world joining Trans Freight Lines and then later Fellowes as a sales rep. Her heart was always in teaching, however, and she returned to the field by becoming a Media Specialist at Bloomfield High School and later a Guidance Counselor at the Academies at Englewood.
June was always passionate about her students; animals; being a devoted season ticket holder of the New York Giants ; her artwork, taking art classes at Montclair State University, frequently traveling with a sketchbook, pencils, and watercolors; she loved vacationing at the Jersey Shore, Florida, the Carolinas, Alaska, and anywhere her son and family lived from Kentucky and Massachusetts to Texas.
More recently, she was happy to have reconnected with former high school classmates, frequently meeting up at the Grand Saloon to catch up and listen to live music.
She is predeceased by her parents, Tony and Mary Runger, and her sister Barbara Runger Klein. She is survived by her only child, Eric Wolff, daughter-in-law Kristen Wolff (née Pearson) and her granddaughter Makenzie Wolff.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 17th at 11:30am at St. Philip's the Apostle, 797 Valley Road in Clifton. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Friends of the Clifton Animal Shelter as a nod to her love for animals and multiple adoptions.
