I was close friends with Joan while attending #9 grade school. I remember a girl scout dance headed by her mother, which my older sister was a member. Her mother said if we didn't get a partner, we would have to dance with a broom. I came to the dance in Allwood just to see Joan, so we danced.
When we graduated to 7th grade and attended Columbus Junior High school and then high school, we were not in the same classes and grew apart though our friendship remained a childhood bond. Due to both of us being on the shy/quiet side, we never were as close as we were at #9. It was a regret because her personality made you want to be close to her. I moved away after the 11th grade, without telling any of my friends. I didn't want to say "goodbye." Joan will always be my childhood sweetheart.
