Did tours in Vietnam, Colorado Springs, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, Fort Riley, Kansas, ROTC instructor at Jacksonville State University in Alabama, Jungle Operations Training Center at Fort Sherman, Panama and Redstone Arsenal, AL.

On April 13, 1964, he enlisted into the service of his country in the United States Air Force; serving as a Weapons Control Systems Mechanic Sergeant with the 13th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Glasgow Air Force Base in Montana. He was honorably discharged on April 12, 1968 and returned to Oklahoma. While serving in the Air Force, Larry was married to the love of his life, Jane Cook on January 8, 1965 at the Church of Christ in Cleveland

Stationed at Ft. Sill, Ok. in the field artillery, Specialist Marc Salmon served as a multiple launch rocket system crew member. Deployed to Iraq with alpha battery 3rd battalion 13th field artillery in Jan. 2005, as a launcher driver fielding the new M270A1 self propelled launcher loader, Specialist Salmon was severely injured during a night patrol nearly losing his life. After two years of recovery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., Specialist Salmon medically retired from the Army after three years, nine months and thirteen days of service.
