Christopher Columbus High School Class of 1980 Planning 30th Anniversary Reunion on Saturday, June 12 at Rosewood Hall in the Bronx Bronx, NY (March 24, 2010) -- The USA Hockey Team had recently completed their Miracle on Ice, 53 Americans were still held hostage in the American Embassy in Iran and President Jimmy Carter was preparing to face Ronald Reagan in the fall election. It was 1980 and for the nearly 200 students graduating from Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx, the future was bright. Now, 30 years later, the Class of 1980 will come together for the first time since graduation, with a special 30th Anniversary Reunion to be held on Saturday, June 12 from 4 -11 p.m. at Rosewood Hall located at 2873 Schurz Avenue in the Bronx. Frank Giuliano, the event organizer, has been attempting to get the Class of 1980 together for over a year. Through the tools of social media the event is now becoming a reality. The Reunion, which costs $50 per person, will feature a Dee-jay, hot and cold catered buffet and the promise of a lot of reminiscing by the group of alumni, many seeing each other for the first time in 30 years. Since it�s been that long, it has been hard to reach many of the graduates. Giuliano and the more than 30 graduates that have already committed on attending the Reunion are hoping local media stories will spark interest and reach additional graduates from the Class of 1980. For a class that never had a prom, 10th, 20th, 25th anniversary or any other event, it is ironic that this reunion occurs in a year when the announcement was made that Christopher Columbus High School, which first opened its doors in 1938, is being forced to close. That makes it extra special to get as many of the class of 1980 back together again.
