Mel Stocker

Former MLB player (Milwaukee Brewers)

What is Mel Stocker known for?

Born in Tucson, Arizona on August 15, 1980, Mel Stocker carved out a unique path in the world of professional baseball. He started his journey at Arizona State University, after which he was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft. However, he spent five seasons in the Royals' minor league without passing Double-A ball.

Stocker's career took an interesting turn in 2006 when he joined the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League. During his time with the Ducks, he excelled, recording a batting average of .303, hitting 3 home runs, and racking up 39 RBIs throughout 110 games. His exceptional agility on the field was evident as he stole 56 bases in just 64 attempts.

After the 2006 season, Stocker returned to affiliated baseball, this time with the Milwaukee Brewers. Despite a rather unimpressive record in Double-A with a .255 batting average and no home runs, he managed to secure a contract with the major league club in 2007. He started the season with the Double-A Huntsville Stars before being called up to the majors in September. Notably, on September 14, 2007, Stocker recorded his first career stolen base against the Cincinnati Reds.

Stocker started the 2008 season with the Triple-A Nashville Sounds and was later transferred to the Brevard County Manatees, part of the Florida State League, in July. After reaching free agent status at the end of the season, he signed with the Seattle Mariners in November 2008. In 2009, he was assigned to the Mariners Double-A team, the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx, and once again entered free agency at the end of the season.
