| About Me | Immediately following graduation from CHS I attended Iowa State University for three years majoring in Physics and Mechanical Engineering. I then enlisted in the US Navy in November 1961. I stayed 8 years in the US Navy. During my Navy enlistment I made 2 patrols on the USS Remora (SS 487), a diesel driven submarine, and 3 patrols on the USS Plunger (SSN 595), a nuclear fast attack submarine. I was then assigned to the S1W Prototype in Idaho as an instructor and instructed potential reactor operators until my discharge in November of 1969. Following my Navy enlistment, I attended the University of Michigan and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Nuclear Engineering). During my time at the University of Michigan I obtained both Reactor Operator and Senior Reactor Operator Licenses from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. These licenses allowed me to operate the Ford Nuclear Reactor, a Research and Test reactor at the University of Michigan. After receiving the BSE – NE degree I went to Arizona as an instructor for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, a three unit nuclear generating station. This position required that a course of instruction be developed that included Reactor Theory, Transient and Accident Analysis, Systems and System Operation. The development and testing of an Operations Simulator was also required. Following the development of the necessary Classroom Instruction and the building and testing of the Operations Simulator, the course of instruction for the Simulator Instruction was developed. I obtained Reactor Operator and Senior Reactor Operator Licenses for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station when the first operating crews were licensed. I performed the function of Reactor Operator and Control Room Supervisor in the Control Rooms of all three Palo Verde generating units. I retired in March of 2008. When I arrived in Arizona I met a lovely lady named Sally. We were married on 25 July 1981. Sally had previously been married and was the mother of one daughter, Sue, and two sons, Edward and Larry,. Sally and I have two children, my daughter Carla Michelle Anderson, was born on 21 June 1982 and my son, Curtis Clare Anderson, was born on 23 October 1984. Sally was diagnosed with cancer in March 2003 and she departed this world on 6 October 2005. I have three granddaughters, Brook Griggs, Brittney Griggs and Stacy Hengsteler, and two grandsons, Brandon Griggs and Jacob Hengsteler, from my stepchildren and one grand...(read more) |
