Majorettes Live On Forever!
Being a majorette at Char Val was truly one of the major highlights of my life, and then being the Head Majorette in my senior year, well, that was better than being Miss America, as far as I was concerned. I had actually learned to twirl and march years before high school in a Drum & Bugel Corps in Amwelll Twp. before I moved to the Chartiers Valley community, so trying out for majorette was not only easy, but exciting to be part of a much larger school with real football games and halftime performances to prepare for. I went on to college and organized WVU's first Army Drillteam, the Mountainettes, and then became a teacher, and later Principal. At each of my schools, I organized a Twirling and Marching Team as an extra-curricular activity for the girls, and some boys!. The first school I taught at was an inner-city, all Black high school in Atlanta, Ga. I taught English and Special Education, but also sponsored the majorettes. What a kick that was. They all told me I would never get a husband with my skinny legs!
Well, I did get a husband, my high school sweetheart, and we headed to California, where the rest of my teaching and administration career played out. Now I am retired, and, yes, still twirling. I started a Twirling Team here at our little local elementary school. A photo of my little girls is in the Photo section. It shows just some of the 35 girls in our corps as they prepared for a performance at the school. The girls particularly love the routines we made up to "Girls Just Want To Have Fun", and........ "Happy" !
Once a majorette, always a majorette, right girls? I would love to here from my other twirling sisters.

Class of 66 Turns 66 Reunion
The Class of 1966 turns 66 this year, and we are planning a fall Reunion. We have a Committee of 7 people who have been working to find our classmates and obtain their email addresses in order to do the whole registration process via email.
The Save The Date announcement went out to all the classmates we could find (approx. 140) in May. Our class had around 440 students and we know of 46 that are deceased, so there are loads more folks out there we have no contact information for. Please contact us at our special email address (CVclassof66@aol.com) if you did not receive your Save the Date announcement. The Reunion dates are Oct. 10-11, 2014. Homecoming Weekend. The Registration Form will be coming out this month! Hope to see you all in October.
