About	Dr. Robert Raymond Nelson, 62, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2011, in his home in Richmond, after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born November 13, 1948, in Gary, Ind., the son of Donald and Ruth Cornelius Nelson. In 1970 he graduated from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa., with a Bachelor of Science degree. From 1970-1972, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. After his military service, he attended the University of Pittsburgh, receiving a master of arts in 1976 and a Ph.D. in mathematics in 1981. He took a position with Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va., that same year. In 1983, he became an assistant professor of mathematics at Eastern Kentucky University, teaching until December 2010. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed doing Origami, Sudoku and raising a glass of beer with his friend Jim Hibbard. Bob was preceded in death by his father and is survived by his mother, Ruth Nelson of Kent, Ohio; brother, Richard Nelson (Karen) of Dallas, Texas; sister, Joan Shreve (Gregory) of Kent, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He will be missed greatly by his entire family.
