About	2026 Michelle passed away on March 11, 2026, with her husband, Fred, by her side. Michelle's life will not be defined by her last few years with cancer, but by her warmth, her love, her stories, her determination, her inclusiveness, and her ease in making friendships. Michelle was born and raised in Pittsburgh, as the middle child of five children. Michelle graduated from Duquesne University, where she earned her bachelors in nursing and became a registered nurse. After graduation, Michelle worked at Allegheny General Hospital in the recovery room, where she met Fred, her husband of 44 years. Michelle and Fred settled in the North Hills of Pittsburgh where they raised their children. Michelle made friends easily and those friendships were a lifelong treasure for her. Michelle volunteered at her children's schools and could always be found at their sporting events. She was their biggest cheerleader. Michelle also worked as a substitute school nurse for North Allegheny, played on many tennis and paddle teams, gardened, and enjoyed cheering on Pittsburgh's sports teams from the sidelines. For the past twenty years, Michelle served as the varsity girls tennis coach at North Allegheny, with approximately 360 wins with 53 losses. She enjoyed taking "her girls" to the championships, where her teams won six state championships. Michelle was voted the 2017 United States Tennis Association's Middle State High School Coach of the Year and Michelle was inducted into the North Allegheny Athletics Hall of Fame in 2025. Michelle's most important achievement was being a wonderful mother to her four children: Julie (Matt) Herrington, Fred (Jennifer) Weniger, Michael (Stacey) Weniger, Christina (Patrick) O'Hearn and grandmother to ten grandchildren: Paige, Michael, Lauren, Molly, Freddie, Faith, Michael, Luca, Cillian, and Cameron. They enjoyed holidays together and their annual Weniger summer vacation. To know Michelle was to love her smile, her warmth, her stories, her cooking, and her boundless energy. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy lives on in the example she gave of how to be a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, teammate, friend, and coach. In addition to her husband, children, and grandchildren, Michelle is survived by her brothers, Frank and Louis Civitarese, and her sisters, Carmelita Minella and Eugenia Finizio. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Civitarese, and father, Louis Civitarese. A visitation will be held at Schellhaas & Sons on Friday, March 13th from 4:00- 8:00pm in Sewickley, PA. A funeral Mass will be offered at Saints John and Paul Catholic Church in Sewickley, PA on March 14th, at 10:00 am.
