| About | It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Russell William Simpson, known by many as "Doc" Simpson. On January 14th, 2024, at the age of 79, Russ concluded a 13-year battle with dementia and Alzheimer's. Russ was born in Bridgeville, PA., on June 7th, 1944, to Russell and Rosa Simpson. Russ is survived by his loving wife Kathy of 41 years; children Luv Dobbins (Robert), Joy Simpson, Scott Simpson (Tess), Jeffrey Simpson, and Kameron Simpson (Jessica); as well as six grandchildren: Christopher (CJ) Dobbins, Nicholas Dobbins, Melina Elger-Simpson, Mia and Leo Simpson, and Kara Simpson. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Baby Moses Simpson. Russ was an internal medicine physician for 35+ years and had a successful practice that served the Montebello community for over 30 years. Russ was involved in volunteer work with the Colorado Golden Gloves and numerous auto racing events. His selfless commitment to these organizations showcased his dedication to supporting and uplifting others. Whether mentoring aspiring athletes and medical students or actively participating in the community, Russ genuinely cared for those he served. A Celebration of Life will be held in June 2024, as Doc Simpson donated his body to the University of Colorado Medical Center; the same institution where he pursued his medical education. |

Russ was a lifelong friend. David Fryer, Jim Fireball Sarasnick, and my self Tom Mutz Maioli stayed in contact for over 40 yrs. Cars and racing was the common interest. My first visits to Heidelberg's Raceway was when I was in 4th grade along with my brother Ray, David Fryer, Russ, and his dad RD Simpson. In 1990 for the inaugural race at Ontario Motor Speedway, David, Russ and his dad and I all met in Ontario, CA for a NASCAR race. On another occasion Russ, Fireball and I all met at Phoenix International Raceway for another NASCAR race.
