About Alfred Carl Wollen, 81, of Bayville, passed from this life peacefully on Friday, May 23, 2025. Alfred was born on November 27, 1943, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Edwin and Dorothy Wollen. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and grandfather.
He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, earning both a bachelor's and a master's degree. He began his career as a mechanical engineer and computer programmer, later serving his community as a teacher and tennis coach in the Pittsburgh and central New Jersey areas. He enjoyed playing tennis, golfing, and following all Pittsburgh professional sports teams. He was a parishioner of St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Bayville. Alfred had a deep love for animals, and they loved him in return-especially his two loyal cats, who are already missing him. Alfred is predeceased by his parents, Edwin Wollen and Dorothy Stine Wollen; his son, Frederick Wollen; his stepson, Sean Forney; and his grandson, Kyle Clause. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hege Wollen; his daughter, Kelly Clause and her husband Jason Beck; his brother, Edwin Wollen and his wife Colette; his sister, Mary Spolnick and her husband Edward; his grandson, Kevin Clause; his stepchildren, Ryan Forney and his wife Yolanda, Tara Apgar and her husband Jim; his grandchildren, Angelina and Alexa Forney, James, Colin, and Anna Apgar; and his great-grandchildren, Avacyn and Godric Clause. Alfred will also be fondly remembered by his extended family and friends. Committal services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ocean County Humane Society, Saint Barnabas Catholic Church in Bayville, or the Alzheimer's Association.
