About | Stephen "Steve" Reich, 64, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on June 15, 2025 from a heart attack while golfing with friends at the South Hills Country Club. Steve was born on May 20, 1964 to Arlene Goldstein Reich and Samuel J. Reich in Washington, DC. He grew up in Pittsburgh with his sister Hillary in Bird Land, where he met many lifelong friends. He graduated from Chartiers Valley High School in 1979 and majored in English Literature at Bucknell University, where he joined---or founded, as suggested by some perhaps spurious claims---the Sigma Chi fraternity. He got his money's worth out of his crazy semester in London and across Europe with buddies Jed Lans and Dave Potter, and he'd go on to relive these travels over the years with many a captive audience. After graduation, he started law school at the University of Pittsburgh, following in the career footsteps of his father and his Uncle Tom. There, he met Tanya, another law student, they went dancing, and the rest is history. In 1987, he graduated and joined his Uncle Tom in the business of sports management. Steve and Tanya were married in 1988 at the Le Mont Restaurant in a small ceremony with family and close friends and their baked Alaska. Steve was defined by an incredible sense of loyalty to his friends, family, and his community. He was a true member of the Hakuna Matata Good Times Club: he loved peace, relaxation, joy, and comfort. He hated traffic. Every year, he requested a new version of the comfiest pair of slippers for the holidays, and he really shined with a cigar and some tasty snacks on hand. Steve loved playing sports with friends and could often be found on the links or in the Paddle cage when he wasn’t at home. He held himself to a high standard with racket sports and was a dream team mate and his kids’ greatest fan. Nothing brought him more joy than showing up to support his people and his favorite Pittsburgh sports teams. He loved the beach and would look forward to his annual Florida March getaway as early as October---he loved sitting on the beach with a speaker, listening to his favorite tunes, grilling, sunsetting, in short, having "a rager." Steve was predeceased by his mother Arlene and his Uncle Tom. He is survived by his father Sam and step-mother Diane, his sister Hillary and brother Joe, his wife Tanya, his children Arlene, Jack, and Estelle, and his son-in-law Daniel. He was recently proud to become a doting grandfather, known to Sofia as "Baba". There will be a memorial at Rodef Shalom in Pittsburgh during the week of June 15, 2025, and the time is yet undetermined. In lieu of donations or flowers, Steve would have wanted you to spend time with your friends or family over some tasty treats. May his memory be a blessing. |
