About | It is with great sadness that we share the news of Charles E. Yankel's unexpected passing on August 26, 2024, at the age of 79. In accordance with his wishes, his family convened to honor him as he was naturally laid to rest on August 30, 2024, at Holy Savior Cemetery in Gibsonia, PA. Born on November 19, 1944, in Pittsburgh, PA, Charles was the son of Joseph P. and Loretta A. (Welch) Yankel. He often playfully joked about a discrepancy regarding his birth date, but the truth eventually came to light. He is survived by his siblings: Joseph L. and his wife Kay Yankel; Pattilee and her husband George Starrett; Loretta M. Shimko; and Maryann, and her late husband Robert Colin. Charles led a vibrant and fulfilling life, sharing his experiences and stories, some of which were loosely inspired by real events, with family and friends alike. He met his wife, Dorothy Ann Sklencar, during a gathering of the former religious (SAILMEN) club, and they were united in marriage in 1971. The couple relocated several times as their family expanded, ultimately settling in Bridgeville, PA. They celebrated 53 years of marriage on August 14. Charles is survived by his children and grandchildren: Karen and her son Dyllan; John and his wife Pam, their son Shane and his fiancée Andrea; Christine and her husband Morgan; Susan and her partner Eddie; William, his daughters Cai and Ming, and his partner Jessa; Diane and her partner Justin; and Charles T. and his partner Erin with daughter Sophie. Charles, a dedicated member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, actively contributed to our community as a devout parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Grace. Throughout his life, he found joy in travel, music, and holiday baking. He was a staunch supporter of all services offered by Costco. |
