| About | James "Jimbo" Downey, 70, of Elk Ave. in Kane, passed away Thursday (July 11, 2024) at his residence. Born Oct. 22, 1953 in Carnegie, he is the son of the late James and Anna (Was) Downey. On Jan 21, 1984 in Pittsburgh he married Ronna Hutchison, who survives. He had been employed for many years by Georgia Pacific where he worked in shipping and receiving. He was a member of the Collier Sportsman Club and the Kane Eagles Club. Jimbo defies succinct description. He was a man without fear, born to be wild, somehow both a bad influence and a great mentor. Hailing from Fort Pitt, he was the great-grandson of an Irish coal miner, grandson of Collier Township's first policeman, son of a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge. His youth-spent in: the woods, rivers, trouble, etc; on: motorcycles, boats, horses, etc; under: the sun, the moon, the stars, etc-became the stuff of legend. He gradually settled down in Kane with his family in the mid-90s. To his children he gave the Alleghenies. Countless memories of scenic back road drives, of campfires and rivers, of blackberry picking and fossil hunting, of snowmobiles and quad runners. He worked hard, in factories and at home, to make sure his kids had the freedom to roam. He pushed a lot of buttons, pulled a lot of pranks, and left everyone he ever met with a story. He is sorely missed. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Jason (Yifei) Downey and James (Jessica) Downey; three grandchildren, Eleanor, Jaykang and Faelan Downey; his mother-in-law, Gloria Hutchinson; sisters-in-law, Jo, Suzanne and Diane; his brother-in-law David and his nephews and nieces, David, Reagan, Brianna and A.J. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Linda Downey; his father-in-law Ronald Hutchison and his brother-in-law, Donald Menegon. |
