About	Dr. Jane Ellen Keenan, DVM, a beloved local veterinarian, passed away on February 14, 2023, after a long and courageous battle against a rare form of cancer. During her ten year battle, she participated in many experimental programs at least one of which resulted in a new cancer treatment drug being released. Dr. Keenan is survived by her identical twin sister, Judith Anne Keenan, her brothers James (Kathleen) and Jeffrey R. as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, James F. Sr. and Duane Keenan of Pittsburgh and her older sister, Duane Keenan Flynn. A lover of animals since she took care of her first white rats at age 9, Dr. Keenan went on to be an accomplished nurse and, later, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. A DVM graduate of North Carolina State University School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Keenan also earned a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh. She was the former owner/operator of Preferred Veterinary Care located in the Scott Towne Center. Her detailed and exacting knowledge in all her disciplines, along with her loving care, will always be remembered by both her patients and the owners of the animals she cared for.
