Cynthia May Hernandez
#Missing Since: August 26, 1976 from Glendora, #California
Date Of Birth: June 7, 1958
Age: 18 years old
Distinguishing Characteristics: Hispanic female. Hernandez's nickname is Cindy. She had long fingernails at the time of her disappearance; the bottom of each nail was painted hot pink and the top was painted maroon. She has a small scar on the left side of her lower lip.
Clothing/Jewelry Description: A black turtleneck sweater, a rust-colored sweater open at the front, gray knit pants, a gold necklace with a single pearl pendant, white platform shoes with cork soles, a white or silver metal love knot ring on her left ring finger, and on her left hand a Charter Oak High School class of 1976 ring with an onyx stone and the engraved initials "CMH" inside the band. She was carrying a purse of brown patchwork vinyl squares laced together on the edges.

Hernandez was last seen in #Glendora, California on August 26, 1976. She left home to see the movie The Omen at the Fox Twin Theaters in the 200 block of north Asuza Avenue in #Covina, California, and never returned. She has never been heard from again. Her white 1963 Chevrolet station wagon with the California license plate number IGN 750 was found early the next morning, unlocked and backed into a parking space behind the theater. Hernandez usually didn't park that way. It's unclear whether she ever actually went inside the building.
Investigators believe Hernandez may have been abducted by a serial predator. Manuel Trinidad Cortez is a possible suspect in her case. Cortez was convicted of the 1979 rape and murder of two eleven-year-old girls in #Oregon and is incarcerated, serving life without parole. Authorities think he may have committed murders in California as well; he was living in California in the mid-1970s and didn't move to Oregon until December 1977. He hasn't been charged with any additional killings, however.
Authorities do not believe Hernandez left of her own accord, as she does not have a history of such behavior. Her mother stated she played volleyball, football and baseball, was physically strong and would fight back against anyone who attacked her. Hernandez is a graduate of Charter Oak High School. She was active in her church prior to her disappearance. Her driver's license and Social Security number have not been used since 1976. Her case remains unsolved.

I found a charter oak high school class ring from the class of 1987. Initials on the inside of the band are "LSM" and on the side of the ring "Susie" is written. E-mail me at mognosky@wspd.org if you know the owner of this ring

Our family has a Charter Oak High School mens class ring from the class of 1977 that my elderly father-in-law has had in an old jewelry box for many years. He believes he found it back in the late '70s, possibly early '80s. He was living in Las Vegas, Nevada at the time. We recently discovered that this ring has two initials lightly engraved inside the band. My hobby is using a metal detector at various places and have found a class ring that is still in very good condition, it says CHARTER OAK HIGH, dated 1979, (19 on one side, 79 on the other) it has the initials MAM, the stone is still in place. If anybody might know the owner have them email me with a number to reach them, Thank you.
