Allen McDermid
Class of 1973
Navy, 7 Years
Serviced on three ships, USS Haleakala (AE-25), USS Beaufort (ATS-2), USS Rathburne (FF-1057), and at US Naval Station, Subic Bay, Philippines. I received the rank of QM-1 (E-6). I was serving aboard the USS Haleakala during the evacuation of Saigon in April of '75, and aboard the USS Beaufort during the operations to rescue Vietnamese boat people in 1979.
After 7 1/2 years I decided to get out to attend university.

I enlisted into the in Army in 1979 and retired in 2012 (32 years). My first tour of duty was in Germany and my last was in Iraq ( in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom). I did humanitarian aid in Honduras and was called to defend this country after the 9-11 attacks.
Most of my career was in the logistics field working at the company, battalion or facility levels in aviation.

I joined the US Army in the spring of 1988. I was a Aircraft Comm. Equip Repairer (68 L). I was stationed in Republic of Korea and Fort Campbell Ky. I married My husband (another service member) in Korea in 1989. I got a honorable discharge from the army in 1990 and have continued a life with the US army as army spouse for over 20 yrs. I have followed and supported my husband up through the ranks (he is now a Master Sergeant and holds a command position at Fort Drum NY. We are currently hoping to retire in the next 2 yrs.
