"Stub" Swanson, 68, local contractor and former city councilman who died Sunday at the Charlevoix Area Hospital, will be held at the Winchester Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Walter Hastings of the Community Church of God will officiate. Interment will be in Brookslde Cemetery. Mr. Swanson was born in Charlevoix Feb. 15, 1910, and was graduated from the Charlevoix High School. In 1934 he was married to the former Alma M. Hartwell of Charlevoix. They have always resided here. He was employed by Hodgkiss & Douma Co. in Petoskey and later was self-employed as owner-operator of the Swanson Gravel Co. He had been elected as second ward councilman earlier this year and later resigned the pest because of ill health. He was a member of Round Lake Lodge No. 293, I.O.O.F.Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Thomas of Alpena and Larry, Kevin and David of Charlevoix; one daughter. Mrs. Nancy Burdick of Charlevoix; 10 grandchildren: three brothers, Edward, Ronald and John, all of Charlevoix and three sisters, Mrs. George (Thelma) Booth of Mio, Mrs. Ralph (Rosemary) Boutwell of Kasota, Minn, and Mrs. Robert (Arloa) Ferguson of Charlevoix. Friends may meet the family at the Winchester Funeral Home from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. |
