About Lottie M. Rathburn
Lottie M. Rathburn, 93, of Charlevoix, died Jan. 16, 1999 at Metron Nursing Home in Big Rapids. The funeral service will be at noon, Saturday, Jan. 23, at the First Congregational Church in Charlevoix. The Rev Philip G. Schairbaum will officiate and burial will be in Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix.
Mrs. Rathburn was born May 20, 1905 in Marion Township, Charlevoix County, the daughter of Herbert and Anna (Couzens) Ager. She attended Barnard School and graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1924. For a short time in the 1920s, she lived in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo before returning to Charlevoix. Lottie began working at the Charlevoix Courier printing shop in the 1940s, and she also worked for the rationing board during World War II. On May 29, 1948, she married John Rathburn in Charlevoix. Together, they owned and operated Rathburn Printing in Charlevoix from 1950 until John's death on Feb. 22, 1964. Lottie sold the printing shop and retired in 1968.
Lottie was a member of the First Congregational Church in Charlevoix and its Mary Burns Circle, was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chap- ter no. 72, Charlevoix, and a member of the Charlevoix Historical Society.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Bellinger and her husband, Donald, of Elk Rapids and Zephyr Hills, Fla., and Janet Williams and her husband, James of Big Rapids; three granddaughters, Sara Warner and her husband, Fred, of Stephenson, Judith White of Elk Rapids, and Julie Carmody and her husband, Joseph, of Grand Rapids; three grand- sons, Kenneth Williams and his wife, Nadya, of White Lake, David Williams and his wife, Renee, of Kalamazoo, and Daniel Williams and his wife, Amy, of Virginia Beach, Va.; 19 great-grandchildren who were her pride and joy; a half-brother, Herbert Moore of Charlevoix; and many nephews and cousins. Lottic is also survived by two special families, Lorraine and Larry Warner of Petoskey, and Annette and John Carry of Waterford. Lottie was preceded in death by her grandson, Vern White, of Elk Rapids.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Charlevoix or to the Charlevoix Historical Society. Envelopes for contri- butions are available at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix, where friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22.
