| About | Douglas Glen Knudsen, 79, of Charlevoix and formerly of East Jordan, died Sept. 13, 1993, at Northern Michigan Hospital, Petoskey. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery, East Jordan. Mr. Knudsen was born Oct. 24, 1913, in Eveline Township, the son of John and Jessie (Hunter) Knudsen. He graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1934. In'September 1939 he married Thelma Hudkins and she preceded him in death on Nov. 30, 1984. He then married Eunice Bunnell in October 17, 1987. Mr. Knudsen was an oiler on Great Lakes freighters as a young man. He also worked for the East Jordan Ironworks and then farmed from 1945 to 1956. He worked at Will Flow (now Viatec) in Charlevoix from 1956 until 1977, when he retired. He served as the Eveline Township clerk, was a member of the Rock Elm Grange in Eveline Township, the Charlevoix Rod and Gun Club, the Farm Bureau and the Ironton Congregational Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, boating and traveling. He moved from Eveline Township to Lake Michigan Heights in 1988, and has wintered in Zephyrhills, Fla., for the past 16 years. He is survived by his wife, Eunice, of Charlevoix; three daughters, Wendy Sloan and her husband Emory of Charlevoix, Marie Yettaw of East Jordan, and Glenda Ferguson and her husband John of Charlevoix; one son, Peter Knudsen and his wife Mary Pat of Benicia, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Van Sloan and his wife Renee of Wyoming, Mich., Douglas Sloan of Charlevoix, Sean Ferguson of Yuma, Ariz., Shelly Ferguson of Kalamazoo, and Todd, Matt and Mark Knudsen, all of Benicia, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Darlene Doctor of Petoskey; one stepson, Ron Geer and his wife Nancy of Avon Park, Fla.; five stepgrandchildren; 1 1 stepgreat-grandchildren; three sisters, Edna Andersen of Charlevoix, Mildred Shores and her husband Joe of Winchester, Wis., and Marjorie Plum of Charlevoix; and one brother, Karl and his wife Alice of Wauwatosa, Wis. He was preceded in death by his sister, Rena Plum. Memorial contributions can be made to the Senior Citizens Center of Charlevoix or to a charity of choice. |
