| About | Leona Bartlett: Jan. 11, 1923 - Sept. 19, 2005 Leona Irene Bartlett, 82, longtime Charlevoix business person, community leader, volunteer and expert gardener, passed away Monday evening, Sept. 19, 2005 surrounded by her loving family at her residence. Leona was born Jan. 11, 1923, in Hayes Township, the daughter of John R. and Anna Marie (Sauder) Struthers. She spent most of her life in the Charlevoix area except for winter months in Sarasota, Fla., for 25 years. She was married for 60 years to Bruce Bartlett before his passing on May 5, 2003. Her parents, daughter Dawn Marie Bartlett, three brothers and one sister also preceded her in death. Leona was the former owner of Bartlett Home Interiors in Charlevoix, now operated by her son Bruce. In her carly years she was the head operator for Michigan Bell, a lifetime member of Community Church of God, raised absolutely beautiful flowers in her home garden along with an assortment of vegetables, especially her famous dill pickles and dilly beans. She loved to play bingo and was an active volunteer in Charlevoix charities. Her grandchildren and family were important parts of her life. Surviving Bartlett is son Bruce L. (Sue) Bartlett; daughters Diana Andersen and Debra Bartlett; three grandchildren, Nathan Christopher Bartlett, Tiffany Andersen and Michael Dillon Bartlett; sister Ruth Berg: brother Howard (Mona) Struthers; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005 at the Charlevoix Community Church of God. Pastors Marjorie and Neil Turner will officiate and interment of cremains will be in Brookside Cemetery. There will be a celebration of life reception following the service at the church. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to either the Charlevoix Senior Center of the Charlevoix Community Church of God. The Winchester Funeral Home served the family. |
