About Ruth Leslie Schofield McKinney, 68, of Charlevoix, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born October 25, 1945, to Herbert and Carol (Slocum) Schofield. Ruth was a Charlevoix resident her entire life and is part of the Charlevoix High School Class of 1963 Alumni. She also attended Western Michigan University.

She was a proud employee of the Health Department of Northwest Michigan for the last 25 years and worked in the billing department specializing in the Dental Clinics North program.
In addition to her joy of family, quilting, reading, and performance art costume making, she celebrated her love of music which started with the Charlevoix High School Band as a clarinet player. This love of music continued as an active member of the Charlevoix City Band, East Jordan City Band, Harbor Springs City band and the "Geezer" Band.
She lived her life through grace, gratitude and compassion which radiated through her smile. As her friends, family and community were her passions, the family hopes that everyone remembers and honors Ruthie by leading through her example.
She is survived by her daughters, Amy (Tim) Wieland, Ellen (Isabella - Granddaughter) Roberts, Jamie (Bill) Rosinski; brothers and sisters Julia E. Heddle, Janet Schofield, Bobby (Kathy) Schofield, Linda Schofield, Andrea Horstmanshof, Jody (Steve)
Werner, Chuck (Joann) Schofield. Ruth's brother, Herbie preceded her in death.
The family is asking that any expressions of caring be done through the Ruth Schofield McKinney Memorial Fund through the Charlevoix County Community Foundation. This fund will sup- port the Charlevoix Public School students needing instruments, tuition to band camp, band uniforms and other needs the student may have to participate in the band. A celebration of life will take place at 08188 McSauba Rd, Charlevoix on Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 3p-5p for friends and family.
