About William "Bud" Gebeau
Funeral services for William "Bud" Gebeau, 66, will be held at the Winchester Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. David W. Yingling of the United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery.
Mr. Gebeau died Sunday, Oct. 19, at the Charlevoix Area Hospital.
Born in Charlevoix Dec. 26, 1919, to Harry and Alice (Gordon) Gebeau, he graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1939. On Jan. 7,1943, he married the former Virginia L. Taylor in Lansing. During World War II he served with the U.S. Army from 1942-1946 having served in the European Theatre. He graduated from Lansing Business University with a degree in accounting and was employed as business manager at the Midland Hospital for the next eight years.
He then became assistant administrator at the Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant for two years before being named administrator at the Rogers City Hospital in 1957, a position he filled until retiring in June 1982. The following year they returned to Charlevoix to make their home.
Gebeau served on numerous committees, among them Governor Milliken's Statewide Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council. He was a member of the American College of Hospital Administrators and the American College of Nursing Home Administrators. He had also done graduate work in hospital administration at the University of Houston.
An avid golfer, Gebeau enjoyed living near the Charlevoix Municipal Golf Course.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Charlevoix; member and past master of the Rogers City Lodge No. 493, F. & A.M., held dual membership in both the Rogers City and Charlevoix Lodge No. 228 F. & A.M., member of the Consistory in Bay City, member and past patron of the Rogers City Chapter No. 501, Order of the Eastern Star, member of the Charlevoix Area Hospital Guild as a volunteer switchboard operator, Charlevoix City Golf Course Men's League, American Association of Retired Persons and president of the Chez Charlevoix Condominium Association.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; a son-in-law and daughter, Keith and Sheri Miel and two grandchildren, Erik and Christine Miel, all of Edmore.
The family sugggests memorials to the Charlevoix Area Hospital, Charlevoix United Methodist Church or the Rogers City Hospital. Envelopes for this purpose are available at the Winchester Funeral Home.
