About Anthony "Tony" Gengle 82 of Petoskey passed peacefully and went to be with his Lord on Nov. 28, 2008 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday Dec. 2, 2008 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Fr. Dennis Stilwell will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Tony was born April 15, 1926 in Charlevoix, MI. the son of Joseph and Mary Ann (Hanacek) Gengle. He grew up in Charlevoix and attended St. Mary's Catholic School and then graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1943. On June 21, 1952 he married Mary Ann Murphy in Petoskey. Tony served in the US Air Force during WW II. He raised his family in Petoskey where he was, also employed by Hodgkiss and Douma for 36 years and retired in 1991. Tony was known for his strong work ethic and was always there to lend a helping hand. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed skiing with his children. He loved following Charlevoix and Petoskey sports and was the time keeper for St. Francis High School basketball. Tony served on the Board of Trustees at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where he was a lifetime member. Most important to Tony was his faith and his family. His final gift to his family was to spend one last Thanksgiving together. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann, children Mary Lieberman, Tim Gengle, Mark Gengle( Liz), Becky Ance (Jim) all of Petoskey and grandchildren Kyle & Bethany Lieberman, Erin & Brittany Gengle, Dillon & Kelsey Ance, Mary Catherine & Clare Gengle. He is also survived by a sister Mary Richardson of San Diego, CA and sisters- in- law Arlene Murphy of Petoskey and Ginny Gengle of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Joe, and brothers John, Joe, Andrew, Sam, Tom, Steve, Bill, Ed, Frank, and numerous nieces and nephews. Tony will be greatly missed and never forgotten by his family. Anyone wishing to contribute in his memory may make contributions to Hospice of Little Traverse Bay (Hiland Cottage) or Brother Dan's Food Pantry. Envelopes will be available at Stone Funeral Home where friends may visit family from 6-8 PM Monday. A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 PM.
