About STANLEY F. SMITH
(December 25, 1940 – August 1, 2020)
Stanley F. Smith left his earthly home and
family to take his place with his heavenly father
on August 1, 2020 following a brief battle with
cancer. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on
December 25, 1940 to Franklin W. Smith and
Velma (Miller) Smith. Stanley was a graduate
of Charlevoix High School and worked for over
30 years for Charlevoix Abstract Engineering
as a surveyor. This job led to Stanley settling
in the Romulus area where he met Asondra,
whom he married on July 28, 1990. He was also
a brick mason and after retirement took a job
as a bus driver for Romulus Schools. He was a
connoisseur of music, from Classical to Rap. He
was an avid pool player and loved to hunt and
fish. He had a small farm and enjoyed working
around the animals. Stanley worked hard all
his life to support his family. He was a humble,
faithful and obedient servant of the Lord and a
fitting example of a man who walked with God.
He was a member of Cornerstone Christian
Church in Belleville. For many years he drove
a church van to pick up homeless men in the
surrounding communities so they could attend
church and have a warm meal. He was always
ready to help anyone in need. Stan and Asondra
opened up their home and became foster parents
to over 25 children over the years. Stanley
even put his own life in jeopardy by jumping
into the Bear River in Petoskey and rescued
a two-year-old boy from drowning. He was a
compassionate and loving man devoted to both
God and family. He will be greatly missed by all
who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents,
Brother Dale Smith and sister, Donnale
Rathjens. Left to cherish his memory are his
wife of 30 years, Asondra, children Glenn
Allen Smith of Manistee, Jeffrey Scott Smith of
Charlevoix, Matthew Smith of Jackson, Robert
Singleton of Romulus, Brittnie Smith, and
Zoey Smith of Romulus, siblings Gary Smith,
Marianne “Susie” Wise, and Steven (Diane)
Smith all of Charlevoix and Delores “Toni”
Kilpatrick of Jackson. He is also survived by 8
grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many
nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on
Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Noon outside at
the Cornerstone Christian Church in Belleville.
