| About | Sandra “Sandy” Gail Gregory, age 85, of Grand Rapids, passed away Monday, March 21, 2022, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital. She was born in Detroit on December 23, 1936, the daughter of Clifton and Amelia Gregory. Sandy grew up in Charlevoix and lived there most of her life with her parents. She worked at the local dime store for many years and finished her working career at Hoskins in Charlevoix. Sandy loved the Charlevoix community and was very active in it. When she was younger, she learned to waterski and got really good at starting on one ski on the dock. She taught her nieces and nephew how to ski during the summers they spent together. She also had fun swimming, bowling, biking and cross-country skiing. Sandy loved serving on the board for the Rainbow Shop in Charlevoix – a resale store sponsored by local churches to help the community. Sandy was fun loving, energetic, and kind. She was good at making people feel special and considered many her friend. She had many special relationships thorough out her life, especially with her nieces and nephew, Norice, Denise, and Greg, who she spent a lot of time with. In the last years of her life, she enjoyed living in the “Penthouse” at Samaritas in Grand Rapids, where she made many friends and kept very active. Sandy had an uncanny ability to win at most of the games that she participated in, such as Wii bowling, Skip Bo and Bingo. Sandy is survived by her sister, Clarice (John) Thorlund; nieces, Norice (Lee) Thorlund Rasmussen, Denise (Jody) Black; nephew, Greg Thorlund; great nephews, Garrett, Tyler, Zach, and Jacob; and great-great nephew and niece, Skylar and Josie. She was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service will take place at 10:00am on Saturday, March 26 at Samaritas Chapel in Grand Rapids. Chaplain Ryan will serve as officiant. Memorial contributions may be made to Greenville First United Methodist Church. |
