About William (Bill) D. Bennett was 78 when he passed peacefully into God’s hands on January 16, 2014. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, he will be dearly missed by all.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 54 years, Rochelle; 4 children: Renae, Brian (Margaret), Diane Bennett, Julie (Ro) Lucas; 8 grandchildren: Gordon & Katie Lucas, Will, Drew, Michael, Patrick, Erin & Robbie Bennett; sister, Donna Thompson; brother, John Bennett; sister-in-law, Gloria Klasno & many nieces and nephews.

Bill was born November 1, 1935 in Cadillac, Michigan to Alvin & Esther Bennett. A graduate of the class of 1954 of Charlevoix High School , MI he was an all state football & basketball player as well as a track star. He attended Western Michigan University before serving in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves. He retired with 39 years of service. His civilian job was with the U.S. Government, Department of the Army, from which he retired after 40 years. Among other interests Bill especially enjoyed golf, horseback riding , playing his ukuleles, Notre Dame football, and traveling.

A 42 year member of St. Margaret Mary Parish, Winter Park, FL he volunteered in a variety of ministries throughout the years including Eucharistic minister, serving meals at the Coalition for the Homeless and working in the Catholic Charities Food Pantry . He made Orlando Cursillo #8, and is a member of the Knights of Columbus, council 2112.

Visitation hours are Thursday, January 23rd from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Collison Family Funeral Home, 3806 Howell Branch Rd., Winter Park. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church on Friday, January 24th at 10:30 a.m. followed by a reception in the parish hall.
