About A memorial Mass for Maurice J. Foster, 67, former executive vice president of the Charlevoix County State Bank, was held at St. Mary's Church Saturday. The Rev. Casimir Zawacki officiated. Mr. Foster died Wedneday, Oct. 23, at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas (Susan Ann) Smith, in Traverse City. The Rosary was recited at the Winchester Funeral Home Monday evening. Born in Petoskey Oct. 8, 1918, to Joseph M. and Margaret Foster, Mr. Foster always lived in Charlevoix where he attended St. Mary's School and graduated from the Charlevoix High School in 1936. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He attended Western Michigan University and was a graduate of the Michigan School of Banking. He joined the staff of the Charlevoix County State Bank in 1948 and later became a member of the Board of Directors. In December 1978, he was named executive vice president. He had been incapacitated as a result of a stroke since December 1978. He was a member of St. Mary's church, was active in the development of Mt. McSauba as a skiing area, past president of the Charlevoix Community Chest, past quartermaster of Charlevoix Post No. 1153, Veterans of Foreign Wars and was active in Alcoholics Anonymous and the Easter Seal Society.
He is survived by one son, Robert M. of Orlando, Fla; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Lusko of Jacksonville Fla, Mrs. Thomas (Linda) O'Malley of Orlando, Fla., and Mrs. Douglas (Susan Ann) Smith of Traverse City; 10 grandchildren and one brother, John T. (Jack) of Los Altos, Calif. The family suggests memorials to the AlaNo Club Serenity House. Envelopes for this purpose are available at the Winchester Funeral Home or deposits may be made at the Charlevoix County State Bank.
