About It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of Wanda Mae Dixon, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025, at the age of 86.
Wanda was born on September 24, 1938, in Charlevoix, MI to Archie and Althea (Meadows) Ward. After graduating from Charlevoix High School in 1956, Wanda continued her education at Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, where she met Bob. After graduating, she and Bob were married on August 29, 1959, and worked together for over 40 years at hospital laboratories in IL, MI, and IN. Wanda retired from Saint Joseph Plymouth Medical Center in 2000.
Wanda and Bob moved to Plymouth, IN in 1967 where they raised four children and lived for 51 years before moving to Fishers, IN in 2018 to be closer to all their children and 12 grandchildren.
Wanda was always active in her community and was blessed with a large circle of friends in Plymouth. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she participated in several women's groups as well as the bell choir. She also belonged to Tri Kappa Sorority and was a past president of the Plymouth Jayshees. She belonged to various clubs including Stitching Club, Piclo Stock Club, Card Club and Book Club. Wanda and Bob also enjoyed their "Bikers" group and the many bike trips and dinners with them through the years. They also enjoyed going to the Indy 500, attending the symphony, and taking several train trips across the country together. Wanda had many hobbies and interests including cooking, decorating, organizing, needlework, scrapbooking, reading, and puzzles. She also loved going back to Charlevoix for visits. But most of all, Wanda loved spending time with family and friends and attending her grandchildren's sporting events.
She was known for her warmth, loving spirit, and for making those around her feel loved and valued. She was always there to support her family or friends and had a unique talent for giving the most thoughtful gifts.
Wanda will be lovingly remembered by her husband Robert "Bob" Dixon; children Mike (Judy) Dixon, Shelly (Jeff) Etchison, Marc (Teresa) Dixon, and Matt (Becky) Dixon; grandchildren Sam (Katie) Dixon, Sarah (Tyler) Hudson, Jeremy (fiancé, Hayley) Etchison, Aaron (Emily) Etchison, Caleb (fiancé, Julia) Etchison, Noah Etchison, Tucker (Erika) Dixon, Alex Dixon, Abby Dixon, Katie Dixon, Luke Dixon, and Libby Dixon; and 5 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Gordon Ward.
The family wants to thank the caregivers at Heritage Woods Assisted Living and Anchors of Hope Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
