About ichael David Horton, 31, of Los Angeles, California and formerly of Charlevoix, died on Thursday, October 22, 1998, at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.
Michael was born on September 27, 1967, in Charlevoix, the son of Howard and Rosemary Horton, and graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1986. He joined the United States Navy that summer and after basic training in Orlando, Florida, trained in Winter Harbor, Maine, as a cryptologic technician. He spent 2 1/2 years on the island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean and was named Operator of the Month and Operator of the Quarter. During his time there, he traveled extensively, training other technicians. Upon his discharge in 1990, he lived briefly in Washington, D.C. before moving to Los Angeles.
He was always optimistic, looking forward to each new day with joy and boundless energy and was a friend to every person he met. His enthusiasm, his many talents and most of all, his love will be missed by his family and countless friends.
He is survived by his parents, Howard and Rosemary Horton of Charlevoix; his sister, Mary Farrell and her husband, Dr. Daniel Farrell of Spring Lake, Michigan; a brother, William Horton of Los Angeles; nieces and nephew, Laura, Maggie and John Farrell of Spring Lake; his special friend, Steven Locke of Los Angeles, several aunts and uncles, and 29 first cousins.
