About Richard Erhard Odmark, 68, loving husband, father, brother, son, uncle and friend, died Oct. 2, 2013, in San Antonio, Texas, as a result of sudden heart failure. Known as “Dick” or “Odie,” he passed away peacefully in his sleep and is now enjoying God’s infinite love.

Dick was born Jan. 24, 1945, in Detroit, son of Clarence and Janet Odmark. He spent his childhood in Charlevoix, graduating from Charlevoix High School in 1963 then attended Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn. He served in the U.S. Air Force, mostly in Crete.
He received an associate of commerce degree in 1970 from North Central Michigan College. Dick worked for Michigan Liquor Control Commission and handcrafted oboe reeds using his musical skills. He moved to Canyon Lake, Texas, to join a construction firm and soon became a building contractor. He renovated many homes in the Sattler and San Antonio, Texas, areas and was control manager in El Paso, Texas, for Balfour Beatty Construction. This work gave him the foundation for his work with federal disaster relief efforts.

He is survived by his wife and three children, one brother, one sister, one granddaughter, two nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence August Odmark and Janet Louis Odmark; uncle Ronald “Ron” Odmark and aunt Marilyn.

Richard attended the Congregational Church (United Church of Christ) in Charlevoix. He was baptized to Catholicism in 2012 through San Antonio De Padua Church.

He enjoyed cooking and his chef expertise drew praise from family and friends. Richard also enjoyed gardening, tejano music, vacations to Cancun and his Yorkshire terriers. He has a special place in his heart for Charlevoix, where he enjoyed concerts at the Odmark Pavilion, named after his father, Clarence A. Odmark.

The family requests donations to Charlevoix Downtown Development Authority, Att: Odmark Pavilion, 210 State St., Charlevoix, MI 49720.
