About | Andrew Essenburg Jr., 63 Andrew Essenburg Jr., 63, of Charlevoix, died Feb. 4, 1993, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix. The Rev. James K. Gardiner of St. Francis Church in Traverse City will officiate. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Charlevoix. He was born March 29, 1929, in Boyne City, the son of Andrew Essenburg Sr. and Minnie (Wyns- ma). He attended school in Ellsworth and Charlevoix, graduating from Charlevoix High School in 1947. Mr. Essenburg served during the Korean conflict in Korea with the U.S. Army First Cavalry Division from 1948-52. He married Barbara Engstrom in 1967 in Petoskey and she survives. Mr. Essenburg owned and operated Andy's Party Store in Charlevoix for 37 years, selling it in 1989. He was a member of the Ameri- can Legion Leslie T. Shapton Post 226 and the Charlevoix VFW Post 1153, both in Charlevoix. He served as mayor of Charlevoix from 1971-72. Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of Charlevoix; two sons, Daniel Engstrom of Charlevoix and Edward Engstrom of St. Clair Shores; two daughters, Mrs. Tim (Maurine "Murphy") Watts of Harbor Springs, and Mrs. Bob (Laurie) Gauido of Fort Lauderdale; four grandchildren, Michale and Genia Gauido, David Engstrom and Ryan Watts; and three sisters, Ruth Barkey of Man- teca, Calif., Mrs. Lyle (Marie) Ance of Charlevoix, and Mrs. Ike (Jean) Rood of Ellsworth. He was preceded in death by a son, David Engstrom, and two brothers, Don and Bruce. The family suggests memorial contribution be made to the Charlevoix Alano Club or to the Charlevoix County Hospice. Envelopes for memorial contributions are available at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix where friends may call from noon- 9 p.m. and meet the family from 7- 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7. |
