About | Rex F. Supernaw, 88, of Charlevoix, died Monday, June 25, 2001, at Charlevoix Area Hospital. Funeral service will be 11a.m. Thursday, June 28, at Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix. The Rev. Francis Partridge of St. Matthew's will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rex was born Sept. 15, 1912, in Atwood, the son of Frank and Lil- lian (Bow Wood) Supernaw. At the age of 12, his family moved to Charlevoix, where Rex attended St. Mary's School through the eighth- grade and went on to graduate from Charlevoix High School in 1930. Rex continued his education at Michigan Tech, where he graduated with a four-year degree in chemical engineering. Rex worked at National Twist Drill & Tool Company in the Detroit area for 37 years, retiring in 1971. After his retirement though he continued to work as a steel consultant and expert witness for the automotive and steel industries, Rex also co- wrote text books for Wayne State University. On Aug. 25, 1936, he married Irene M. Martin in Charlevoix. They enjoyed more than 64 years of marriage together. In 1974, the couple returned to Charlevoix to enjoy their retirement. Rex was a member of St. Mary's Church in Charlevoix, St. Vincent dePaul's in Rochester and the American Metalurgical Society. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cribbage and woodworking, especially making clocks and lighthouses. Survivors include his wife, Irene; two daughters, Marie (Richard) Johnston of Washington, Mich., and Martha Meyer of Macomb; four grandchildren, Michael (Wendy) Voccia, Anne Johnston, Walter James Meyer II and Kara Meyer; great-grandchildren, Carrissa, Michelle and one due to arrive in December; brother, Ruel "Charlie" Supernaw; sister, Ruby Tillotson. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for disbursement at a later date. Envelopes will be available at Winchester Funeral Home, where friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, June 27. |
