About Walter (Walt) G. Poquette 76, native of Petoskey died peacefully at his residence May 17, 2014 with his loving wife by his side.

Walt was born, September 19, 1937 at the old Petoskey Hospital to Frank W. & Aileen A. (King) Poquette. He attended Charlevoix Public Schools and was a graduate of Charlevoix High School where he lettered in four sports. After high school he attended Lake Superior State University where he earned a civil engineering degree.

On November 1, 1958, he married Elizabeth Marie Blum at the First Presbyterian church of Petoskey. Together they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage.

Walt worked as an operating engineer for Hodgkiss and Douma, running their asphalt plant in Bay Shore. After 30 years Walt left H & D and with his son Mark founded M & W Poquette Excavating and Superior Asphalt.

Walt loved to work at his property east of Petoskey, known to family and friends as, "The Acres". He spent endless hours mowing grass, cutting trees and generally enjoying his natural surroundings. Snowmobiling, hunting and riding his motorcycle were favorite passtimes. A hard working family man, he spent countless hours helping his family and friends with boundless determination and energy.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Mark (Julie) Poquette, Tammi (Bill) Burek, David Poquette, and Kim (Dave) Poquette all of Petoskey; two sisters, Barbara Hilyard of Clare and Sandra Birdsall of Petoskey; sisters in law, Marcia Rhodes, Mary LaTocha, Bonnie Charles and Virginia Poquette; his grandchildren, Mark and Ben Llewellyn, Mack and Jason Poquette, Casey and Katie Poquette, Lauren and Katie Burek and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Eleanor and a brother, William
Poquette.

In accordance with his wishes in the near future there will be a private gathering to celebrate his life.

Walt was a very generous and caring-person and lived by the words, "What can I do for you".

We will all miss seeing Walt on his mower and knowing how truly happy he was doing what he loved best.
