About	Russell Lewis, 72, of Charlevoix, died July 20, 1999, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, at the First Congregational Church of Charlevoix. The Rev. Philip G. Schairbaum will officiate. Interment will take place in Brookside Cemetery, Charlevoix. Mr. Lewis was born June 21, 1927, in Houston, Texas, the son of Oral and Lola (Hinshaw) Lewis. He moved to Charlevoix at the age of 1. He attended Charlevoix High School, graduating in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1945-47. On June 20, 1949, he married Lois Lane in Petoskey. Mr. Lewis worked for 32 years for Western Electric Company (AT&T). He retired in 1983. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Charlevoix Lodge No. 282 F&AM, Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion, Charlevoix County Hospice and the Telephone Pioneers of America He enjoyed his family, gardening, traveling and people in general. Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife. Lois, of Charlevoix, son, Richard and his wife, Diana, of Waterford: three daughters, Kay Russell of Petoskey, Karen Cole and her husband, Ed, of Petoskey, Nora Stirf and her husband, Ken, of Neenah, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; three sisters, Maxine Bergmann of Charlevoix, Lorna Lewis of Mountain View, Calif., and Beth Mulac and her husband, Tony, of East Jordan; and one brother, Jim Lewis and his wife, Karen, of South Haven and Charlevoix. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to the First Congregational Church and to Charlevoix County Hospice. Arrangements were handled by the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix.
