About	Charles Mark Hooker 88 of Charlevoix passed away Friday, January 20, 2023. He was born June 3, 1934 in Charlevoix the son of Harrison and Rose (Pistorius) Hooker. Charles grew up at the corner of Antrim and State St, now the Oleson’s building and loading dock which was once the Hooker Garage and Livery Barn. The town would often say “The Hookers were crazy over horse’s”. He graduated from Charlevoix High School in June 1952 and went into the Army March 1957 active until March 1959. He was honorably discharged in Feb 1963. Charles married his love Maxine Kemp Jan 23rd, 1962. He remained in Charlevoix working as a machinist at American Mold/DME for 38 years. After retiring he enjoyed horseback riding, volunteering with Camp Quality at Camp Daggett, cross country skiing, walking and gardening. He was a true cowboy and gentleman. Left to cherish his memories are family he loved to spend time with including daughters, Mary Lou (Jim) Hodge of Sanford Fla., Lisa (Derrick) Carroll of Charlevoix; and son, Mark Hooker of East Jordan; grandsons, Brian (Shelley) French of Portsmouth,Va., Bradly French of Portsmouth, Va.; granddaughters, Victoria Carroll of Charlevoix, Anastasia (William) Haygood of Grand Rapids; great-grandsons, Aiden and Bradly French ; great-granddaughters, Alexis Amiah French and Alexis Riley Green; great-great granddaughters Rilynn and Kennedi Faust. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Maxine in 2015, sisters Beverly Strauss, Harriett Draper, and brother Harry (Cappy) Hooker. Funeral services with military honors will be held Tuesday, January 31st, at 11 a.m. at the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Visitation will be held Monday, January 30th from 5 to 7 p.m. also at the funeral home. Spring interment will take place in Brookside Cemetery, Charlevoix.
