About Mary Therese Huber, age 71, died November 5, 2023 in Edina Minnesota. She was born December 15, 1951, in Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. Robert and Lenore Nack Huber.

Mary attended schools in Osage and Charles City, Iowa, graduating from Charles City High School in 1970. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from the University of Minnesota.

Mary’s career centered around her love of art, promoting and supporting the arts and artists. She was the Executive Director of the James and Meryl Hearst Center for the Arts in Cedar Falls, Iowa from 1988 until her retirement in 2013. Mary was a highly successful grant writer and an active member of the Iowa Arts Council, the Minnesota Association of Museums, the Art Educators of Minesota, and the Museum Division of the National Art Education Association. Her career also included work at the Minneapolis Institute of Art in Minneapolis MN where she held progressively responsible positions including the Director of the Visitor Services Department. She also served as a professional artist assistant for Charles Biederman.

Mary added much joy and vitality to her entire extended family who loved her and will miss her greatly. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Joseph, niece Christa, and brother-in-law Garold Zander. Survivors include siblings: Margaret Zander of Buda Texas; Robert (Christine Solso) Huber of Bloomington, MN; John (Ann) Huber of Darien, IL; Laura Huber of Boston, MA; and Ellen Huber of Minneapolis, MN. Mary had a special and unique bond with her nieces and nephews: Alicia Zander, Alex Finstein, Anne Huber, Jane Huber, Kevin Huber, Theresa Scotto and Will Scott, as well as grand niece and nephew Alejandro and Elena Valadez.

Mary was a Foster Mom to several young women including Brandy Johnson, of Oelwein, Iowa and foster Grandmother to Brandy’s children Bryce, Lucy, and Clark Johnson.

Mary loved watching and feeding birds and was an avid cat lover. Memorials can be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society in Waterloo, Iowa and the Hearst Center for the Arts in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

A service of remembrance will be held in the spring.
