Phyllis A. Safko Koepp
Class of 1944
1. Community Involvement- Collected for various charity organizations. Involved in neighborhood organization (Chardon Hill Association), Volunteered (gray lady) for Tampa General Hospital for several years, mostly while husband Ron Koepp was a patient. Long time blood donor, participated in West Shore Christian Church.
2. Career Success- took business courses at CHS- typing, bookkeeping, shorthand. Started out as a part-time secretary in a family owned insurance company. Went to night school many years to advance in the insurance field and eventually owned the agency. Earned many awards, distinctions and trips, e.g. Paris, Bahamas and many in the United States. Sold the agency in 1976 to care for disabled husband. When husband died in 1985, went back to work for a temporary agency. She was hired by the International Shrine Headquarters in Tampa FL and worked in medical records for 10 years, even earning a small pension.
3. Positive Role Model- was always supportive and encouraging to her four children. Always ready and willing to help family, friends and neighbors. Even in later years transported neighbors to medical appointments. She helped one neighbor remain in her own home until age 99.
4. Demonstrated Leadership-served as president of the Chardon Hill Association, was active in business women's groups.
