John Baldwin '60 said:

Wilbur was a good friend in the late 1950s up until my graduation in 1960. He played the baritone and I played trombone so we sat near each other in the band. In 1960, Nelda Avent (nee Clanton) and I made All State Band and Wilbur accompanied us and the driver Mr. Buck (band director) to Austin for the TMEA convention. A memorable event was the speeding ticket Mr. Buck got in Buffalo which was a well known speed trap at that time. Wilbur was a good guy with a great sense of humor.
