About Me That’s me, I'm who I am, my own self. I’m shaped by my experiences and have finally learned that’s what makes me strong. Many people, who know me, say that I survived against the odds and turned into a wonderful being. I’m not sure if I’m always wonderful, I try my best to be a better being today than I was yesterday. I’m kind, caring, sensitive, insightful, tenacious, empathetic, just, humble, and compassionate. My many diverse experiences in life have also made me complicated. I can be taken as soft, yet, I have a voice that I’m not afraid to use, and I will fight for what I feel is right. I’ve been told that I carry the weight of the world on my shoulders. My 10th grade English teach told me that I’d be famous someday…I’m still trying to figure that one out! Depending on my environment I can be reserved, silly, amused, bewildered, brave, daring, sexy, or wild. I’m not comfortable standing out in a crowd. That’s me, I'm who I am, my own self I value family more than I ever have and cherish every minute I spend with them. My dad (Jerry McKenzie) is my hero; my sister (Linda McKenzie Rolli) is the person I aspire to be more like. I enjoy spending quality time with my dogs and other critters. I also enjoy hiking and spending time in the woods as well as writing and philosophizing about life. I love raising farm animals; my favorite is goats – they individually unique, full of life and character. I think my love affair with them started as a young girl when my dad brought home a goat in the back of his VW bus. If I was wealthy I would open my heart and home to critters and children that are unwanted - I’d take in the most abused, unattractive and troublesome and give them all my love. I would also anonymously give money to many of the small, family farms that are struggling to exist today. Yet, that’s me, I'm who I am, my own self. I believe we and all living things are a consolidation of energy in a field of energy connected to every other thing in the world. If we pay attention to it we can be more sensitive to others around us. I believe that being able to give and receive love from those around us is important. I know that it’s equally important to love yourself, but I’m still having a difficult time with that. I try to extend warmness to others and treat others how I would want to be treated. My stance is that you never know the situation of the next person you might come across; it could be someone on the verge of wanting to leave this life, so a simple act of kindness like opening a door or acknowledging the other person with a smile could influence the outlook of that individual. I can attest that a genuine smile or a door held open can make the difference in that person’s day; as it has happened to me on several occasions. Then again, that’s me, I'm who I am, my own self. Horses have always been significant in my life. I use to sleep with my horse saddle and would even swim in my cowgirl boots when swimming in creeks, which in retrospect wasn’t such a great idea! I’m at my best when I'm working with my horse and riding. Horses have helped me developed confidence as an insecure child and are what brings ultimate peace and comfort to me. I’m fortunate to own such a magnificent creature and don’t take it for granted as I once knew what’s like to be a “horseless cowgirl”. Anyone can be a cowgirl, it’s not having a fancy horse trailer, property or 20 horses in your barn, it’s your spirit that matters even if you don’t own a horse. My spirit is of a cowgirl, wild and free. If I could have decided my fate, my choice would have been to be raised on a ranch. I’m fortunate to have been exposed to ranch life and can claim a genuine cowboy, Stan Bean, as a second father. Horses are as sacred to me as they are to the Lakota Indians, which are some of the poorest individuals in the world, but their horses bring them much wealth as they do for me. Living without one is not a choice for me, although financially it can be difficult. Once again that’s me, I'm who I am, my own self. At one time thought I wanted to be an advocate. Perhaps one day, I still can. I sometimes wonder if I should have persuade modeling as everyone told me I should, I wonder if it’s too late? Hmmm…. but I’m not really into fashion and I love ice cream would so scratch that! Perhaps I should have taken high school more seriously, had more confidence, and instead of thinking that drinking, putting horses on hold, and others things I’m not so proud of publicly announcing were the answers to my distress as a young girl from a socially disadvantaged background. Then perhaps I could have made it into a top college. Perhaps I should have not thought (as being the first in my family to graduate high school and college) that once you were college educated you would have lots of money to payback your student loan. Who knows, yet once again that’s me, I'm who I am, my own self. I still believe in sending a handwritten card and wish I had the energy to call and write people I care about more, but the reality is its 2013. I’ve made lots of connections in my life, however, I value the time I’m able to give to those who mean most to me so to have 1,000s of FB connections is overwhelming for me. They say that FB makes us more connected, but I think it alienates us more. That’s me, I'm who I am, my own self. I have many goals. In one year, I’d like to be back in the saddle again, research my family roots and learn the Cherokee language. For now, I'm trying to figure out the next steps of my journey in lieu of losing my job (the start of a new career) subsequent to back surgery. I think my friends have the best advice to sit back and let God direct me to where I’m needed most, for now my focus is on healing. Yet again, that’s me, I'm who I am, my own self. Some of my favorite songs: • I Cross My Heart, George Strait • Mud on the Tires, Brad Douglas Paisley • Never Surrender, Triumph • Forgiven, Metallica • Wind of Change, Scorpions • Against the Wind, Bob Segar Favorite Book: Eye in the Sky Favorite motto: “Follow Your Bliss”, Joseph Campbell Favorite quote: “If a Man is Called to be a Street sweeper”, Martin Luther King Well that sums it up for now,...(read more)
