The South Dakota Musicians' Association has deemed me worthy (yikes) of being a member of their Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be either April 20th or 27th I believe at the Washington Pavillion in Sioux Falls, So.Dakota. After graduating from Central High School in Aberdeen in 1965, our band the Vicounts played for our graduation dance and then packed up and headed for Texas to join Ray Ruff and Checkmate Productions....we recrorded 2 songs there...an original "Carol Jean" and a cover of "Diana" We then took over as J. Frank WIlson's backup band...he had the number one song in American with "Last Kiss!" Then Radio...on air and programming in Minneapolis, Portland, Oregon and Los Angeles, Ca.....what a ride! While in Portland in 1976, I had the opportunity to write music for the Portland Trailblazers.....a song called "7 Years to Glory"...I wrote the music and co-wrote the lyrics...it was to be a soundtrack for a motivational film and was on tv there as well as in the Oregon libraries.
I'm humbled and honored by this opportunity and totally thrilled to play "live" at the ceremony.
Hopefully some 1965 classmates can make it....
There are usually around 1500-1800 people attending and it sells out every year....tickets go on sale mid January, 2013.
