| About Me | Biography Early years Bruce Alan Conward SR (African America Actor/Singer) Born June 21, 1957 to Arthur, and Mary Conward Number 4 of nine other siblings Bruce was born and raised in the north eastern US, being born in Norfolk, VA. His parents moved to the Washington, DC area at the age of 2. Bruce started grade school in the DC area, than was sent to New Bedford Mass for a couple of years, to live with his grandparents, only to move back to the DC area to complete his early grade school education. Bruce then moved to the Seat Pleasant MD area to completed his JR high, and High school, as well as some college, and trade school education Bruce was raised in a very religious family, where he saw his dad, and mom, attend church nightly at the then Evangel Temple Church, located in Washington, DC, on Georgia Ave N.W. Bruce and his brothers grew up loving to sing, and it was at this church that Bruce and his three other brothers learned most of their religious/gospel songs that they would sing together around the house. Between singing at church, and at home, Bruce developed a strong desire to launch out further, and reach for the goal of becoming a singer. Bruce later saw his Dad, and Mom move into the Pastoral ministry. Where along the way Bruce start singing with his brothers and neighborhood friends, formulating different groups, and singing the latest R&B songs. Career Bruce and his brothers started singing in the local school talent shows, where they were wining first place. This only encourage Bruce to pursue extra outside singing adventures, singing in local live bands in the 70’s, in venues such as; night clubs, cabarets, local dives, as well as recreational park, and centers. During this period Bruce, and his brother stated back singing gospels, forming the recording group called the “Young Celestials”, where Bruce sung most of the lead vocals. Bruce Also took an interest in acting during school events, and church activities, showing up in plays, and musicals, and becoming a part of the Thespian Society. Bruce continued following his desire to sing, by committing fully to Christ, and the church, and singing as the worship leader at Peoples Christian church of Deliverance, where his dad was the pastor. Bruce sang with the James Cleveland DC Workshop Choir and other various choirs in the local DC area, as well as committing more exclusively to the Young Celestial. Bruce than branched off to sing with Nevelly Ottley Singers (NOS), a local Opera, and Orchestra company. Bruce through the years has performed in plays, musicals, and weddings, funerals, and concerts, traveling as far west as Los Angeles, and as far south as South Dakota, down to the Caribbean. Highlights: Plays/Opera: “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown” (linus), Tremanisha (2nd Lead Tenor), Looking for an Echo (Lewis), Jesus on Trial (Jesus) Venues: Apollo theatre, in NY, Howard University Crampton Auditorium in DC, Tacoma Theater in MD, Mount Rushmore Amphitheater in South Dakota, Studies: HS Theater MD (acting), Private Lessons Professor J.P. Morgan of the Boston Conservatory MA (voice), Professor Barnes of the Duke Ellington School of The Arts (voice) Recording(s): “Footprints in the Sand”, and “I Don’t Know Why Jesus Loves Me”, (No Evil Studio, in Washington, DC) Personal Life Bruce married after a whirl wind romance of 3 months in 1979, where he is still married, after 32 years.
