orn in Everett, WA, on November 10, 1963, Phil was the epitome of a Pacific Northwest boy who grew into a Pacific Northwest man. He graduated from Cascade High School in 1982, then earned a degree in engineering from the University of Washington in 1987. He dedicated 35 years of his life to Boeing as an engineer, a job that enabled him to travel to China, Russia, France, Germany, Turkey, Ireland, and Japan. Adventurous, easygoing, and curious about other cultures, his life's work was to help people safely fly all over the world, but he loved his Pacific Northwest home most.
Phil was a graceful skier, an avid hiker, mountain biker, and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors with family and friends. He was fiercely loyal to and close with friends from his youth, including his Delta Chi Fraternity brothers, but continued to make meaningful friendships throughout his life. He was a keen observer who knew how to take time to appreciate the life and beauty surrounding him. Phil was also a caring, thoughtful, and kind-hearted person.
Son of Daniel and Jeanette Bertrand, he is survived by his mother; older brothers Steve, Patrick (Suzanne), and Vince (Terri); nieces Jessie Hettinga (Ray), Maddi, and Colbi Bertrand; and nephews Ryan and Spencer Bertrand.
Phil is also survived by the lights of his life, his daughters, Emilia and Flora, whom he shared with Anna Bertrand. He was blessed with knowing the magic of holding their small hands as they walked down the street, of being greeted with love and excitement every day when he'd arrive home, and of their belief that he was the best dad in the world.
Always remember there was nothing worth sharing
Like the love that let us share our name.

A celebration of Phil's life will take place at the Edmonds Waterfront Center on Sunday, September 24, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
