William (Woodie) Martin Wood
6/9/1951 - 6/22/2014

William "Woodie" Martin Wood, born on June 9, 1951, was taken from us in a tragic car accident on Sunday, June 22, 2014.
He is survived by his mother, Audrey Gardetto, brother Tom Wood (Peggy), sister Cindy Pomares (Richard), nieces Sarina, Cara (Derrick), and Jacqui, and many nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
"Woodie" graduated from Casa Roble High School, Orangevale, Calif., and immediately enlisted into the USAF to serve in the Vietnam War. His bravery earned him a purple heart and at the completion of his term, was honorably discharged. He was a big man, but, his heart was even bigger, always helping someone out in need. A big support to mother, particularly during the long care necessary for dad suffering from Alzheimer's. His favorite things were hunting, fishing, sports, motorcycles, cooking, and classic novels.
He was recently diagnosed with throat cancer from which he was given full change of recovery by VA staff at Mather and Travis AFBs.
This sudden loss has left the family devastated and feeling empty. He was loved by family and friends and will be terribly missed, but, not forgotten.
He will be receiving full military honors at the burial ceremony, 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 7, 2014, Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd, Dixon, CA 95620.
There will be a Celebration of Life reception at the family residence in Roseville, Calif., at 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests to send donations in his name to your favorite charity .
