About	History/Psychology Teacher Michael Edmund Hallen Born in San Francisco on July 18, 1950, Michael resided in Sacramento County for the last 36 years until he passed away on August 28, 2010 with his family by his side. He bravely fought his cancer with great dignity and strength. He was the beloved son of Rene Hallen and partner to Lana Sanchez, brother of Maureen Swartz and brother-in-law James Swartz, loving uncle of Lauren, Scott, and Jenna Swartz, nephew of Debbie Baker, and cousin of William Amable III. He is also fondly remembered by many other aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as close friends, colleagues, and numerous former students. He was preceded in death by his father, Edmund G. Hallen. Michael graduated from Mills High School in Millbrae and earned his BA from UC Davis while playing varsity soccer. He later earned a Masters Degree. In 1974, he began his 36-year career as a much respected high school teacher at Casa Robles High School in Orangevale. He traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America and used these experiences to enrich his honors world history classes. He also organized and lead specially designed summer European tours as well as additional trips for his students during school breaks. He inspired his friends and his students with his spirit and integrity. A gifted musician, Michael often entertained family and friends on the piano and guitar. Also an avid sports fan, Michael lived a full and rich life and will be greatly missed. A memorial service to honor and celebrate his life will be announced at a later date. .
